The first Commandery meeting was held on 19th January 1990, under the newly appointed Commander, Dr. Andrew Zsigmond de Lemhény. Over the next couple of years membership quietly increased, and the Commandery began its association with the Transylvania region of Romania, with the first of its many donations of monies for food and medical supplies. In the following years donations of clothing and other necessities were also sent to the Ukraine and Hungary, as well as cash donations to local charities. Over the years the Commandery has been greatly involved with the Reformed Church of St. Lazlo project in Transylvania, and its associated Harley Youth Centre. From 2003-2005 Aaron Kiely coordinated local activities until he was appointed to the Grand Magistry of the Order. Under his command, membership increased from 22 to 37 from various Christian traditions. In March 2004 the Commandery hosted a vigil and investiture service in Liverpool's Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals at which the Grand Prior Earl Ferrers presided and Bishop Tom Burns preached. On that occasion six new members were invested with the mantle and insignia of St Lazarus in the presence of a large congregation which included representatives of the Venerable Order of St John, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and the pontifical Order of St Gregory. Szabolcs Losy took over as Commander in September 2005 and under his leadership fundraising continues through regular social and cultural events. The proud tradition of raising thousands of pounds every year to assist the St Lazarus Charitable Trust and to support local concerns selected by the members will be maintained.
